The Ethics of Relation between the Researcher and the Subject in the Human Subject Research on the Basis of Responsibility for the Other - Focusing on Levinas¡¯ Ethics of the other -
Kim Jin-Kyong

Abstract
In the human subject research, informed consent is the starting point of relationship between the researcher and the subject based on which that research is conducted in scientific and ethical manners. However, the more important thing is that the legitimacy of the consent depends on not just getting it, but how much ethically the human subject research is to be conducted. The purpose of this study was to provide the right ethics of relation between the researcher and the subject, which is required for the latter¡¯s consent based on sufficient information, with reference to Levinas¡¯ Ethics of the Other. According to his Ethics of the Other, Levinas criticizes egocentric awareness and claims that the other-centered relationship can provide a solution to ethical issues. In conclusion, Levinas¡¯ Ethics of the Other suggests how the researcher and the subject should be aware of the other¡¯s otherness and responsible for that party in the human subject research. With the awareness and the responsibility, both of the parties can do their respective rights and duties. And at the same time, they can work together on the human subject research in scientific and ethical manners as they unite with each other under a common destination, that is, achieving the purpose of that research.
